How much we've grown in just 7 weeks!

I am wrapping up week 7 of long term subbing. I still learn something new everyday and take on new responsibilities every week. I am becoming more independent in my classroom (mainly because I'm all the way down the hall all by myself) and now that report cards are done, Its just teaching from here on out!

I only hope that I am teaching the kids everything they are supposed to be learning. Tonight I was thinking back on the first week I was with them. We were just reviewing large addition and subtraction problems. Since then we have really grown

Math: HUGE growth. we have learned how to do 2-digit by 2 digit multiplication, 2-digit by 3-digit multiplication, lattice/partial product (multiplication strategies), and today I really felt like my lowest math group had DIVISION!!!!! They were so scared when I told them we were about to get into division.. and now they can do it! I TAUGHT THEM :) Math is so intimidating for me to teach, because I was taught by drill and practice. I just KNOW how to multiply and divide... it's hard to explain the random questions kids have. It's also interesting to see the differences in each child's learning.

Science: We have conquered, Natural Resource (Renewable, Non-renewable, and Inexhaustible) and Conservation; the Water Cycle; Weathering and Erosion; and now we are into the Seasons with the Earth's tilt and axis. They took their first CBA and 90% of my class made As!!!!

Social Studies: We have learned about the Texas Regions (Great Plains, Mountains and Basins, Central Plains, and Coastal Plains) and Native Americans of Texas... Big project due next Monday.

Writing: If you were to compare their writing from the beginning of the year to what they are doing now you would be amazed! They have such higher expectations for themselves and are really growing. So Proud!

Reading: I have learned a lot about reading assessments and strategies for fourth graders to read with more expression and comprehend the text more. They are awesome readers.

On a side note. I am really anal about some things, and that has started to rub off on my kiddos. My whole class has improved on the quality of their work because I expect it from them. I expect nice hand writing, heading in the right place, holes of the paper on the left side, etc. I also expect them to clean up after themselves and to help keep the classroom nice by helping me out every once in awhile. They love to help me with anything I need!

The kids make me laugh and I make them laugh. THey want me to get a job in 5th grade so they can have me next year. A paret came up to me at school and told me that her daughter was saying that she doesn't want her teacher to come back because she doesn't want Miss Conn to leave! How sweet! I will bawl like a baby when I leave my kids!
