Well I have applied for my teaching certification and got fingerprinted today! I am so relieved that I passed my tests the first time! I got to get fingerprinted in Frisco because I will be subbing for the month of May! I am finished with student teaching on April 22, and school is out sometime in June.. so the HR director was nice enough to let us in the system so we can sub in May and make some money! Frisco pays $95 a day for certified teachers, but I won't technically be certified yet since my my degree won't be posted on my official transcript until mid summer. So I will be making $75 a day as a high school graduate. That is still way better than what I made at The Children's Courtyard, and I won't be changing diapers all day long!
Since all of this education stuff is going on in Texas, I, along with thousands of other teachers/soon to be college grads are worried about getting jobs. I just assumed that if I didn't get a job, I would move back home and sub in the area. That is definitely not what I want to do... 2 weeks ago, one of the teachers on the fourth grade team found out she was pregnant, and is due September 15, so she said to me, "Megan, I really hope you get a job, but I also really want you to be my long term sub!" Long term subs make $120 a day, and it would be for a minimum of 6 weeks so that would be a great back up plan, as opposed to moving home. One of the student teachers from last semester (Tech student) graduated in December, and has kept very busy subbing at our school! She gets a call pretty much everyday, so I think I can make it on my own, so long as I have a room mate and I am keeping steady sub jobs. I can keep my eye out for jobs as they open up out in this area as well..
Speaking of the education stuff going on in Texas, I will be going to Austin to march on the capitol with thousands of other TX teachers. I am going with 2 friends from my cadre, we are staying in a hotel Friday night and marching the next morning. I can't think of anything clever for a sign..
