Well I just got back from a FANTASTIC meeting at Ashley Elementary! It was so great to be back at that beautiful school where I student taught.
Before the wedding on Sunday, I was feeling a little antsy in the hotel where we were staying, and decided to go down to the business center and send a couple of principal e-mails. I sent an e-mail to the principal of the school where I student taught explaining that I was interested in any position she may have at her school, and was also interested in the Long term sub position in fourth grade.
Well I think sending that e-mail was a smart thing, because she wanted to meet with me about it today! I got to leave work at the childcare center early, go put on a dress and go to my old school.
I have a plan now!!! They want me to be the long term sub (officially)! And I have a place to live for another 3 months too!!! yay I have bought myself more time!
The principal still hopes that I find a teaching job, and if I even have an interview she would like me to let her know so that she can start planning for back up, but as of now everything is set for me to start!!!
I am going to get paid to shadow the teacher for a day so that I can get the routine down (I of course already know it because I student taught there!!!) but I also need to get to know the kids... I also need to go to Meet the Teacher night in August so that parents know who their kids are going to be with for 12 weeks, and curriculum night as well.
Another big thing I will be doing is Parent/Teacher conferences in October. This is really a fantastic opportunity for me to grow as an educator and gain more experience.
With all of the new cuts in education... FISD cut substitute pay... that sucks! instead of $95 a day for certified teachers, it's dropped to $90 a day. and If you're long term, you used to make $95/day for 2 weeks, $120/day up until 6 weeks, and then $240 a day for the rest of the time. Well they cut out the $240/day :( and after 10 days I will just make $120/day for 10 weeks...
It's still better than the childcare center and I would be in a STRUCTURED classroom! whoop!!
Please continue praying and crossing your fingers that I find myself a real teaching job :) thanks!
