I brought in the New Year in Houston and had a great time! The weather was great down there at this time of year! I don't like cold, so 70 degrees on NYE is totally fine with me! Here's hoping 2012 is a big year in the career world for myself! I so do not want to be unemployed for a 2nd year.
I took a big step in "adulthood" on January 2nd. I flew all by myself!! I know there are kids that do it all the time, but I'm not letting that get in the way of my accomplishment! I flew one way southwest from Houston Hobby to Dallas Love Field. I have of course flown several times before, but I was always with my mom and she would just hand me boarding pass, tell me what to do, and I would follow her wherever we had to go. I bought my own ticket, checked baggage by myself, went through security by myself, found my gate, got on the right plane and made it through! It gives me way more confidence to travel with friends or fly somewhere else by myself!
Right before the plane took off, I got a call from Ashley Elementary in need for a substitute the next day. That job led to subbing for the same class the next day, and I was able to score 2 half days (Am/PM) for Thursday! If I can get 3 days of subbing in each week until my next long term position starts, I should be able to pay my rent and buy my gas in the month of March. I already have 2 jobs booked for next week!
I actually had another job offered to me for today (that would have been 4 days for this week), but I had just dropped my car off at the shop and was with my mom. My car went over 90,000 miles last week, and has been in need of it's maintenance, and my struts have been needing to be fixed for like 2 years. I know that's bad.. and trust me, I've paid for it in new tires every year because of it :(. The guy just called me and I am looking at spending $1,300 time time around.. uhg. It sucks, but I am getting a new timing belt, water pump, all sorts of part replacements needed at this milage and age. The top of my car wouldn't go down either and they fixed it with some lubricant and moving a few things around. Not charging me for that. YAY. and The authobahn had sent me a $1,000 gift card which is good for taking 15% off of all service and parts up to $1000. That helps a lot. How is this already very broke substitute teacher supposed to pay for that? Mom got this credit card that has 0% interest until Jan. 2013. I will be paying $150 a month to get this taken care of by then. That's do able. Maybe I should bump my sub days up to 4 days a week minimum? haha. real world sucks without a job. I would really love to be buying a new car right now :(.
One thing I did decide to treat myself to was a new iPhone. I have had my current Iphone for 2 years and 8 months. I think I have shown that I can take care of a phone. I bought that iPhone with my hard earned diaper changing money when I was working at the Children's courtyard. I was blessed with Christmas money from my grandparents and had a nice stash of babysitting money to pay for it. It feels good buying something I actually WANT and have a great use for. I would not be happy using my "gift money" on bills.
The job hunt continues!
