Yesterday was my last day working at the children's courtyard. I have worked there for 19 months and have made incredible bonds with lots of the children there. I picked up one of my toddler girls and started crying because I don't get to see her everyday! and I think what breaks my heart the most, is that when I come to visit them, they won't even remember who I am!!! I got a super cute poster card with lots of handprints and pictures on it. And I cried for about 10 minutes on my way home from work.
Then I get home around 3:00pm. The maintenance guys are in my apartment when I get there, they had only just gotten in there, and were installing the digital thermostat my mom had purchased for the apartment. We got it one so that we could program the temperature to be hot when we were at work and to cool down by the time we got home, hoping to save money on our electric bills. Anyway, Adolpho (i think that is his name..) told me that the temperature was 83 degrees and currently, and he had set it to 76, so it would cool down. Well, I take care of things in the apartment for a little bit, and leave for IKEA and hour later. The temperature read 86 when I left... I was a bit concerned... then when I returned from IKEA, the air was 92... and it was pretty steamy in the apartment. Caroline messed with some buttons and were hoping for the best. We went to her work since it was so hot and she needed to get something finished. once we returned around 9 pm... the apartment was 98 degrees. We called because this is officially a maintenance emergency, they said they couldnt come out because it was dark and a safety hazard.. WHAT?! so.. caroline and I packed up our things and went to her aunt's house to spend the night.
I went to New Teacher Orientation today, and it was just the UNT student teachers getting some questions answered.. I really didn't learn anything I didn't know already about the whole PDS (professional Development School) process. people were basically just asking silly questions and we were told the expectations. It was held by the Denton ISD coordinator, because my coordinator was in Wisconsin for a funeral. The coolest part of the orientation was this AWESOME muffin/fruit spread FISD provided. I love getting free food! I also got a free UNT college of education stress ball, highlighter, pen, keychain, and an FISD post it kit! we were out of there by 11.
I come home to my apartment and it is 95 degrees. I go to the office and tell them that this needs to be fixed immediately because I am having young children stay at my apartment tonight, and we already had to find a different place to sleep last night. she sent maintenance back up, Adolpho explained that when they were up in the apartment this morning, the apartment was 107 degrees. I believe it because my candles, make-up, and Nutella (and probably other food in the pantry) was all showing signs of melting. so it had dropped 12 degrees in 2 hours... now the temperature reads 88. Because it is so hot outside, it is taking a REALLY long time to cool down.... I really hope it can drop 10 degrees in the next 3 hours because that is when my kiddos will be here!
I am babysitting tonight, tomorrow, and tuesday! I have pictures on facebook of my apartment. I think you can see it even if you don't have a facebook by following this link:
