Freckles

So my boss is pretty particular about confidentiality at my job. I feel like I have always been pretty safe with saying, "the student said this," or leaving out names, etc. But just to be safe, I think I am going to go back through old blogs and take out any words that may even hint to where I work, etc.

I do still like to share stories though.

Yesterday, we had a little girl walk in the room, and her face was pink. Her mother signed her in and booked it without a "Hello" or explaining the pink face. When I say pink face... I mean she looked like she had clown make-up on at first glance, and when you got closer it looked like she was doing a beauty treatment and had a dry on facial mask. Kids at age 5, 6, and sometimes 7 don't really have a filter on what they say yet, so of course they were all standing around her, staring at her and asking, "{student}, why is your face pink?!" "What's that all over your face?"

It's sun block... now this stuff did not come off the whole day. "Momma" said she wasn't allowed to take it off.. It didn't dry to normal skin color or ever rub in...

background story... Mom is a little bit special. She has already asked me to be sure she gets sunblock before going outside. Okay, that is not unreasonable. She then proceeds to tell me she doesn't want her daughter getting freckles, and that she "freckles" really badly. (This kid seriously has 3 freckles on her face)

I have freckles, and was self-conscious about them when I was younger (like 8 or 9 yrs old)... but now I think freckles are stinkin' cute on kids, and I like getting a couple on my nose in the summer. Why is this parent telling her daughter that freckles are ugly?

PS this 5 year old girl.. has had her hair hi-lited/dyed. She has roots...

So it must be okay to bleach your daughter's brain, but GOD FORBID she get freckles on her nose.

Mom thinks that the center lost the sunscreen she gave the student to have with her. We have a strict sunscreen policy. 1. Students can't put it on themselves, and 2. We have a sunscreen locker. We have to put it on them with gloves... So when she came to school Monday, the mom insisted that the center had lost it and didn't have any. (we didn't lose it). So I had to keep the poor child in shade while she watched everyone else play outside for 10 minutes (we really don't even stay outside that long)

So I am guessing she doesn't trust us with sunscreen and will be bringing her daughter to school like that everyday.
