STAAR time!

Well you can definitely feel the STAAR pressure at my school right now! The STAAR stands for the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness. It has gone from TAAS to TAKS and now it's the STAAR! Each time the state updates a test, they up the rigor, and the questions are really difficult! I should post some sample questions so you can really get the picture! 

This is the first year that the STAAR will count for schools, and in 5th grade, the students have to pass BOTH the Math and Reading STAAR in order to move on to 6th grade. If they don't pass the first time, they take it a second time in May, and if they can't pass it then, they will have an opportunity to re-take it in the summer. 

The Math STAAR is April 2nd, and the Reading STAAR is April 3rd. This week we will be reviewing everything we possibly can! It could mean the difference of some kids meeting or not meeting the standard. In a few weeks they will take the Science STAAR. 

I have to cover all the beauty on my walls.. in case anything might reveal an answer. We also get Friday off as a Bad Weather Make-up day. It will be a busy 4 days!
