Growing as an Educator

I am very content with my decision to stay in Frisco and long term sub. It has been a week and a half and I have already learned SOOOO much, and have had to deal with issues that student teachers don't have to deal with. I am so lucky to have my team there to run and ask for help whenever needed.

Some examples of the things I have learned about or gained experience in...

1. Reading assessments - Running Records, Fluency tests, and DRAs, oh my. I have had exposure to running records in my college courses before student teaching and probably took a test involving the term DRA and the formula for fluency. Of course all of that information leaves your brain the moment the exam is over. The real way to learn is to do them yourself! Our new ARI teacher has been awesome to work with and I have actually applied a lot of my kindergarten training into this individual testing stuff for 4th grade!

2. PARENTS. I have had lots of parent communication in a week and a half. I am sure my e-mail is going to blow up after tomorrow when progress reports go home...

3. PAPERWORK. There is so much. this category is all of the little things I am learning lumped together. I am getting paperwork for my ESL kids, my Sped kids, field trip paper work, PTA stuff, etc. I spend so much time during the day just going through and sorting through papers!

I definitely can't complain about my class. They are a hilarious, loving bunch. I fall more in love with them everyday!

I learn something new everyday. It's exhausting, but I for sure love teaching. :)
