okay Prepare yourself for a pretty long update.
First of all, Today I subbed for my old Kindergarten class. It was SUCH a great day! I love and miss those kiddos so much! It was also very refreshing to walk into a classroom where I knew all of the kids, the schedule, discipline procedures, etc. It was GREAT! Just like student teaching but I got paid! It also helps that the kids know and respect me! Needless to say, the day went by super quick. It was also great to TEACH again. Every other time I have subbed the teachers just supply busy work or videos. HELLO I am capable to follow through with your lesson plans! It just makes me look forward to going back to my 4th grade class a couple times this month while my mentor has her trainings.
Monday I subbed at my school as well. and while I was there I have secured 3 new sub jobs, pulling my total of sub days to 12! I can't wait to get that check in June!
Speaking of money... I have a summer JOB!
Isn't God great? I will start from the beginning...
When thinking about my summer job opportunities, I was thinking that I would apply to Crate and Barrel, Container store, Teacher tools, etc. All I knew was that I would rather work in retail than spend my summer changing diapers again. I did NOT want to go back to the Children's Courtyard to work.
So I stopped by my old work to visit a teacher who had recently lost her husband. While I was stopping by, the School-Age manager asked me how I was doing and what I was up to. It's the same old, "oh just applying for teaching jobs and subbing for now." She told me "well you know if you ever need a job you can always come back here."
So the other day, she contacted me and told me to call her. I called her yesterday, and she asked me if I was serious about wanting a summer job. "uhmm Yeah." Come to find out, one of her teachers just put in her notice and she needs someone for the Kindergarten and 1st grade classroom for the summer. All you have to do is make a 40 on this online test.
I got nervous about the test, because they didn't have it whenever I got hired in 2009, and my boss took it for fun and bombed it. I was only supposed to make a 40, and I made a 95!! phew! So I sat down and filled out all of my paper work right there on the spot! I start June 7th!!
WOOOHOOOOOO!!! NO DIAPERS! and best of all I got the 6:30am-2:30pm shift! I can come home and lay by the pool everyday! I don't have long days with a 2 hour "break" in the middle!
The cherry on top is that they completely understand my situation. She says "just don't get an interview on Six flags day". So I don't feel awkward applying for jobs and asking them for flexibility in case I get an interview. Getting out at 2:30 everyday is going to be great for applying for jobs in the evening.
I am just so glad that I won't be depending on my parents for financial support this summer! And since I am already in the Substitute system, even if I DONT get my own teaching job, and I can stop working at CCY once summer is over and go back into subbing until my *hopeful* long term sub position starts up in september.
GOD IS SO GREAT!
Pray that a teaching job lands in my lap like this summer job did!
