Yesterday I subbed for Special Ed. at my elementary school. I worked with kids from Kinder all through 5th grade. It was an interesting schedule.. Kids come in for 15, 30, or 45 minutes at a time.. you work in small groups all day long. I had lessons to go over with the students, but I would much rather be in my own classroom with my own kids.
I had some downtime in the afternoon. I was supposed to be doing math inclusion with 5th graders from 2:15-2:55, but since it is the end of the year, the teacher just said, "don't worry about it." I took that time to help my old 4th grade mentor set up the baby shower in the library. It was the baby shower for the teacher that wants me to be her long term sub.
While I was running an errand, I got to see my old kindergarten class come in from recess. I looked at one of my girls, and she had no color in her face at all... I walked up to her and asked, "Are you okay???" And my kinder mentor says, "Oh, she does not look good. take her to the nurse.. take her.. take her..." and pushing me and the student down the hall. Literally 5 seconds later as we are walking.. puke hit the floor. Had I been standing 2 inches closer to her.. It would have gotten me. We grabbed a trashcan from a classroom and she puked some more down the hall... Normally vomit just grosses me out beyond measure.. but I just felt so bad for her, that I wasn't grossed out at all...
Poor girl.. I hope she is feeling better today.
